Causes and Effects of Violence in Children Essay - 1698 Words

Recent research has shown that the relation rate between children and violence is increasing. In fact, the article Children and Violence states that as many as 10 million children per year may witness or be victims of violence in their home, schools, or communities across the United States. Childhood exposure to violence has a huge overwhelming impact on children’s development, affect emotional growth, cognitive development, physical health, and school performances. This increase in children’s exposure to violence suggests that more children are at risk than what was expected. Has the definition of violence changed or now the society does not consider the impact ferocity has on children? Merriam-Webster defines violence as an â€Å"exertion†¦show more content†¦A child can either be a direct or indirect target of violence in the home or they can be harmed by its occurrence. To many children, the indirect act of violence [such as mother being physically abused by the father] can still have the same effects as being directly abused. Several factors such as domestic violence, media violence, gender differences, antisocial personality disorder can contribute to child violence. Being a witness of domestic violence can be auditory, secondary, or visual. Children who either witness or see the injuries done to the family member face a more stressful environment. They can develop more psychological and behavioral issues than a child who has a stable family environment. These children being abused will more likely show destructive trends, mood swings, and uncontrollable manners, or may have difficulty with reasoning. In addition, they may see violence as a way of resolving conflicts since the adult family members they look up to engage in violent behaviors as a way of resolving their conflicts. Groves further supports the impact of domestic violence on children by stating that, â€Å"exposure to domestic violence deleteriously affects childrenâ⠂¬â„¢s social, emotional, and cognitive development.† She continues to state that children’s responses to domestic violence may vary according to the child’s age, proximity to the violence, the brutality of the violence, and the availability of adults who can emotionally protect or sustain theShow MoreRelated Television Violences Effects on Children Essay1080 Words   |  5 PagesViolences Effects on Children Most people read statistics like â€Å"Before the average American child leaves elementary school, he or she will have witnessed more than 8,000 murders on television† ( â€Å"Does T.V. Supply Chain Management Network Sample for Students Myassignement

Question: Write a Review and Analysis of an HBR Case Study. Answer: Analysis According to the case study, in the year 1983, Chuk Hu mainly identified basic concepts related to the supply chain management. He proposed the concept of 3D printing on furniture and connected accessories to it. The radiated ultra violet rays are helpful in making thin layer which helps in providing an actual image of the procedure. The promotion and bottom up approach related to the procedure assists in providing suitable assistance. By identifying the concept from different sources and by putting forward approach related to the process, Chuk Hu defined the concept of 3D printing. His first concept for the processing is Stereolithography. After this, various techniques and approaches are identified in the organized manner. Supply Chain Management Network The technical standards for the 3D printing are also known as Additive method for printing. Through this method, suitable printing technique got identified. There are various materials used in printing methods which are named as the paper, glass, ceramics, wax, material and biological cell, which will directly influence the printing behavior in a concrete manner. The maintenance and management of the logistics on a wide level can be done with the help of suitable processing (Doherty, 2012). The network related to the supply chain management is quite wide at an initial level. The case study implies that the 3D products are spreading with a higher speed. It is explained in the case study that the American Engineer Chuk Hull is having a definite identity and innovation in reference to the 3D printing technique. The Chuk Hull also identified definite approach for the suitable problem definition in the organized format. The supply chain management network is also identified with the help of patent formation. The patents are also found out in U.S and the nearby areas of the locality. These patents are also helpful in describing expansion of the products in most desirable methods (Tibbits, 2017). Following the strategy of 3D printing system, China also follows the concept of supply chain management system to manage aspects related to the products. While expanding the network related to the product worldwide, the Chinese organization generally do not prefer to make the products by just copying and pasting (Rogers, et al., 2016). In the case study, it is mentioned that the organization generally grasp best aspects of the products. On that basis, suitable product can be made. The market of China is identified with a specific set of strategy. Due to this strategy, the market is expanding with a rapid rate. In China, the 3D printing is also able to generate support on government level too. By observing the revolutionary attitude in the services provided by China and the suitable management of supply chain management, the government has also come up with different approaches on a specific level. These approaches are suitable for the supply chain management (Wang Gunasekaran, 2016) . Evaluation of the Process in the organization The process of supply chain management mainly follows specific rules which takes a lot of time. Still, in various countries, the traditional approach of supply chain management is identified. Traditionally, the customer raised their request and ordered products. The products dispatched towards concerned logistics and are then divided according to the area. After the division of the product, it reaches to the concerned person. For managing all these opportunities, it is essential to identify each and every step in a definite manner. All this procedure takes time. This case study mainly emphasizes on the new method of supply chain management, which is managed through the 3D process. The 3D processing method is considered as the solution for the supply chain management procedure. Through this method, amount for managing products and application related to the logistics can be solved easily. The reduction in material supply list, management of the complexity related to the supply chain management and inventory cost can be managed by providing suitable assistance in the correct direction. By considering the supply chain management procedure, the positive impact of 3D printing can be identified. In the case study, it is also specified that to bring the revolutionary change in the working structure of the organization, the 3D printing techniques can be used in the wider landscape. The evaluation is successful in providing specific assistance in the correct direction. Apart from this, the defining set of results is also maintained with the help of processing (AL-Maliki, 2015). The evaluation of the case study also depicts that the involvement of the 3D technique in the China will also help in defining the major growth perspectives. The contribution of the organization is about 34.9% in the year 2014 and then it is continually improving on defining aspect. It is also predicted by the Mckinsey that in the coming years and near future, the market for 3D printing will expand on a suitable level. The technique can able to generate the suitable ground for growth perspectives 3D printing techniques The wide range of 3D printing techniques is utilized to make the task successful. These 3D orienting techniques may also help in providing suitable assistance by which, the processing can become easier and comfortable. Some of the most common 3D printing techniques on the basis of the case study defined are shown below: - Stereolithography is the first identified technique which is helpful in mentioning the major aspects related to the printing methodology. This will be helpful in drawing thin layer on the water and on that basis, the suitable image is created. Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is the method in which, with the help of specific image drawing powder, the actual structure will be formed. On powder, the specific image is drawn and definite shape will be obtained from the reflection of the laser beam. This method is also identified as the unique method of processing (Low, et al., 2017) Fused Position Modelling is the process in which the low volume product is made by managing the nozzle. The nozzle sprinkles the ink for forming the image in a positive manner. With the help of nozzle tip, the actual image required is being prepared in the definite manner. Laminated Object Manufacturing is mainly helpful for the form/ fit testing and specific tooling patterns. By this method, the rapid aspects of producing the pictures can be provided on the wide landscape. The image formed by this method is perfect and specific too (Baker, 2015). Apart from this, there are various patterns too, which can be used according to the requirements of the printing and processing. Problems identified in the Supply Chain Management The above report and information which is initially gathered from case study is successful in delivering a new concept related to the 3D printing technique in all respects. With the expansion and use of 3D technique, common issues which are continuously appearing are specified below in the form of points: - The Chinese market for the 3D printing technique and toy making is quite new. The management of the SCM is quite difficult for a definite level. The companys annual growth rate (CAGR) only defines 32 % of the growth ratio. According to the forecast, it is quite low, but in the coming future, chances of development are identified more. The involvement of the specific business model will be helpful in providing specific assistance to the business. There are two models identified, one is named as the business innovation model and the second model is identified as the Design science research (DSR) method. The business model is identified as the opportunity which helps in promoting the supply chain management procedure. It is identified as the unique method which assists in promoting the financial viability of an organization. The process of communication and development of the concept is also mentioned with four paths to the business model innovation, which are the mixing of the products and delivering of the services, setting of the definite path in a possible direction, formation of the appropriate portfolio and changing the order of the specific decision (Jin Ji, 2013). The final aspect of solving the issues is related to the DSR methods. These projects are helpful in defining the design search research aspects for the development of the supply chain management in the correct course. The suitable process of iteration and looping is considered for the specific process of improvement in the correct direction as well. By following these perspectives for the development, it could become possible to manage the aspects related to the supply chain management. Managerial Implications There are various aspects that can be identified on a managerial level. The improvement is also required at a definite level. But, after observing the complete structure of the case study, some issues are observed in the complete process of supply chain management. The managers also have the specific influence of the definite production system. Some of the implications on the managerial level are defined below with the specific set of information: - The managers have to be more technical and sound to grasp the current activities related to the organization. The 3D printing methodology is too wide and equipped with a definite set of information, so it is essential to put forward the definite approaches in a suitable direction. The managers have to more organized and focused. The strategic planning is also identified on the managerial level. It is identified that the China also looks forward for the new commitments related to the 3D printing. The strategic approach towards these managed aspects will be helpful in providing the definite set of results. The managers are also bound with some defining sets of rules and regulations. The 3D approach followed by them is also of higher consideration. The managers also have to follow the methodology related to the patents. This methodology related to the patents may also help for the managers in promoting the activities related to the 3D printing (Deloitte, 2012). The other implication is associated with the definite set of information which is provided for the growth and development of the business expansion by the managers on a definite level. The managers have to focus on the appropriate information, which is related to the specific procedure. Apart from this, there are various implications which are to be followed in the definite manner. The suitable recommendations are also provided for the management of the managers in the correct direction. Recommendations There is a definite set of recommendations provided for the development and growth. The improvement can only be possible when new techniques and definite set of approaches will be introduced in the managed form. The recommendations are identified as the most innovative way to introduce the new concept in 3D technique. The recommendations are defined below. The 3D techniques are successful to bring a change in the supply chain management procedure. The expansion of the services is also defined on the wide landscape. But, for making the commercialized use of the current technique, the precise work plan and approach is compulsory. The organizations like Deloitte and Telstra are also looking forward for the more opportunities related to the 3D expansion (Hoiem Savarese, 2011). The various study shows that the expansion and management of the 3D technique is the key source of growth and development. It is recommended that the techniques which should be applied to the completion of the process should be selected in the correct manner. There are various techniques mentioned for the processing, of the 3D technique. The correct selection will be helpful in providing suitable assistance in the framed manner. From the various approaches, the last set of recommendation is that the promotion through patent and the help of the copyright aids in identifying the most specific method for an improvement. On the managerial level too, the technique has to be accurate and precise. The suitable set of information should be provided on that aspect. This will aid in supporting the new ideas on a wide level (Chen, 2016). Conclusion The case study defined in the discussion is full of possibilities and information. The wide range of information is provided on the definite platform and specific approaches may also be generated with the help of this case study. The explanation in the case study is also wide. From the initial level of 3D printing to the ending level, the information is mentioned. This approach will also help in highlighting the actual procedure followed in the 3D technique. There are various graphs and images defined in the case study, which will prove as the supporting milestone for the improvement of the 3D techniques. The Chinese organization is identified for managing the milestone for a proper set of work. Apart from this, some modifications and improvements are also provided in the case study, which may further help in generating the basic ideas correlated to the procedure in a definite manner. If the issues related to the 3D techniques can be solved and suitable assistance will be provided to them, then the generated result will also appear in an organized form. Integrated Advertising America Alcohol Industry Case

Introduction Integrated Advertising refers to the promotion of a certain product using a variety of media. Since the inception of Internet and the subsequent generational change, there has been tremendous change in the manner in which companies place their advertisements. The use of mobile advertising is quite popular with studies showing that it will be the most preferred by 2016.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Integrated Advertising: America Alcohol Industry Case specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Television advertising is still quite popular though it is largely driven by prime times and major programs. This transformation is across the board. However, a look at alcohol advertising paints an even more interesting picture. This paper looks at the nature of alcohol advertising integration, its effectiveness, and the influence it has on the general populace (Mims, unpaged). Nature of Advertising Alcohol a dvertising is diverse in nature. Companies spend so much money to create awareness of alcohol. Most of this advertising is on broadcast media. This includes radio, television, and other news channel. In these broadcast media, maximum attention is directed towards particular prime times and certain programs. In America particularly, most of alcohol advertisements (over 90%) appear in sports programs. This is significant as it targets specific audiences. In Canada, for example, alcohol advertising features prominently when the popular game of hockey is underway. While majority of Canadians watch hockey games on television, a significant number attend live games. In these arenas, alcohol is massively advertised and estimations show that for every ten Canadians that watch these games, half drink alcohol related content while at it. In America, American soccer is a popular pastime. This is what culminates into super bowl Sundays. It is common knowledge that during these Sundays, advertis ers pay a lot of money to place their adverts. A check at these adverts indicates that majority of them are automobile related. Interestingly, the second largest category is alcohol ads. Hence, sports programming is a popular way to advertise alcohol in America. Pundits indicate that it accounts to over 90% of the total alcohol advertisements (Mims, unpaged). The second most popular programming that attracts alcohol advertising is prime time television. For example when broadcasting news, when analyzing hot political topics, or when a certain popular show is been broadcast in television. All these are times when alcohol advertising is broadcast. However, it is important to note that certain laws govern prime time adverting of alcohol.Advertising Looking for research paper on advertising? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More For example, in United States certain laws indicate that when advertising alcohol, 70% of the audience should be of above alcohol drinking age. Additionally, the message should explicitly expose the dangers of consuming alcohol. The laws are similar in Canada with special interest in letting the public know the danger of using alcoholic contents. The laws are also aimed at protecting young people who the advertisers deliberately target. Alcohol advertisers advertise mostly on weekends. This is not by accident but design. During weekends, most young people are likely to engage in leisure activities, which are synonymous to drinking alcohol related products. This forms a very influential platform for advertisers. Research indicates that over 90% of alcohol is consumed on weekends. This rubber-stamps the strategic move to advertise on weekends (Ulrich and Song, 296). Influence on General Populace Over the years, research has indicated a general direct effect of alcohol advertisements to consumption. However, there is no direct relationship between increased alcohol consumption and advertising . The manner in which companies advertise, as noted above, indicate that the greatest target audience is the youth. While it is logical to conclude that advertisements on weekends may result in a specific target audience of young people, it is risky too. This is because most underage people are also free on weekends. Laws in both Canada and USA prohibit this. However, advertisers continue to do it albeit expertly avoiding these legal pitfalls (Mims, unpaged). Alcohol advertisements do not necessarily lead to higher consumption. Studies indicate that alcohol advertisements lead to brand loyalty and increase the market share of alcohol companies. It is crucial to note that these advertisements have the effect of bringing new alcohol consuming people on board (Ulrich and Song, 297). The most affected people are the youth. The advertising channels and the nature of advertising adopted by alcohol companies have the direct influence on youthful audience.Advertising We will write a cu stom research paper sample on Integrated Advertising: America Alcohol Industry Case specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The advertisers associate alcohol consumption to class and a high status in society. It is also common for alcohol to be associated to success. This is the reason they advertise on popular games. Hence, youthful audiences are carried away and are easily influenced by these adverts (Grube, unpaged). In addition to the above analysis, it is crucial to analyze the main advertising channels and the manner in which they are changing in the face of globalization and internet. Mobile advertising and internet related advertising is quickly gaining ground. Studies indicate that by 2016, mobile and internet advertising will surpass all traditional advertising channels combined. These traditional channels include radio, television, print-media, and personal marketing. Hence, companies are shifting towards social media sites such a s Face book, Twitter, Instagram and MySpace to advertise alcohol (Mims, unpaged). The flipside to these advertisements is the potential of reaching unintended audiences. There are no legal structures in America to govern the impact of these ads to audiences of lesser ages strictly. However, it is simple and relatively cheap to advertise on these channels (Grube, unpaged). Effectiveness of Advertising Alcohol advertising is quite popular the world over. Alcohol selling companies stake in millions in profits. As noted earlier, there is not statistically proven correlation between alcohol consumption and advertising. However, these companies continually increase their market share and promote brand loyalty. The advertisements mostly affect the youth. The currently trending internet and mobile advertising affects the youth most with over 90% of the youth directly exposed to raw adverts on alcohol. This is the same case with the nature of advertising adopted by these companies on other c hannels such as print media, radio, and television advertising. Estimates indicate that close to 90% of youthful audiences are exposed to televised alcohol advertising. In the year 2010 for example, light television viewers were exposed to over 400 alcohol advertisements annually. Heavy television viewers at the same time were exposed to over 800 television ads around the same time (Grube, unpaged).Advertising Looking for research paper on advertising? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Television advertisements are supposed to reach certain legally permitted audiences. This excludes children below the age of majority, which is 21, in America. However, this is not usually the case. With the increased internet usage, children below this age are continually been exposed to such ads. The USA and Canadian legal fraternity is grappling with ways to try to curb this by proposing laws that govern alcohol advertising. However, not much has been achieved since it is not possible to determine the age of a person who subscribes to social media sites or sites that are popular with such adverts. These sites include sports promotion sites. Additionally, while companies may try to limit advertisements to sports programming, the audiences that watch these sports are mixed in terms of age. Families attend them, which constitutes young children who are exposed (Ulrich and Song, 298). The above analysis indicates that the effectiveness of alcohol advertising is a critical area of dis cussion. There is no any right way to justify the wrong audiences who are exposed. The big question that many pundits ask is whether this scenario is by design or default. A critical analysis indicates that this is all by design. Alcohol companies are normally desperate to consolidate their market. They are also desperate to ensure loyalty to their brands. The best to do this is to expose youthful audiences to the coolness associated with alcohol consumption. This sticks in their heads and they grow knowing that alcohol is good. There is no direct way of admitting this. However, America’s legal system requires that alcohol advertisements be captioned with the danger of consuming too much. This may have the mitigating effect of discouraging alcohol consumption albeit at a minimal percentage. In conclusion, alcohol advertisements have both positive and negative effects. However, while positive effects can be readily quantified, the negative ones have to be carefully deduced fro m the effect it has on society. In America, at least 60% of people consume alcohol related content (Ulrich and Song, 297). Textual and Image Advertising Analysis Jim Fowles Fowles says that an advert has appeals from the following dimensions. That is sex, affiliation, dominance, autonomy among others. An effective ad appeals to the person reading the advert from each dimension. In the American culture, for example, everyone reveres winning and winners. Kids learn from their parents how to win in life and among peers. Hence, an ad that appeals to this characteristic is a direct influence to a majority of these people (Ulrich and Song, 297). In the American and almost every culture in the world, men must have a certain appeal that borders on dominance to win the hearts of women. Advertisers use this fact and Fowles is an advocate. He is capable of protection of the family and his woman. He also stands out among his peers. This means that he is the man every woman would go for. Therefo re, an advert should have a direct psychological connection with majority of women. This does not mean they will use alcohol. However, it meets the whole intention of advertising, which is attention. The other factor that Fowles uses to judge a good advert is autonomy. This stands out quite well in many alcohol adverts. However, an ad’s influence should cut across the board. It should not influence the targeted audience only. This is the true nature of advertising. Although the target may be a certain group, an advert should strive to influence a large number of people. This is because in marketing the larger the pool the greater the likelihood of making a sale. Courtland Bovee While Jim Fowles analyzes the use of image in advertising, Courtland Bovee analyzes the use of text. The textual components of an advert should meet and exceed the expectations of the target group. The first textual component is the heading/headlines and subheadings. Textual advertisements are appealin g to people who take time to read them. In the above case, most of the people are not patient. This group includes teenagers, men and people who are starting to make it in life. Hence, psychologically, they do not want things that might appear as disturbances (Ulrich and Song, 296). In using textual ads, Bovee offers some dos and don’ts. For example, it is suicidal to use commonly used phrases or clichà ©s. This dilutes the message of an advert. He advises that the text be bold enough to meet the eyes of the reader. He also says it is important to use short and easy-to-remember phrases. He refers to them as catchy and appealing to the eye (Young, 50). Conclusion Integrated advertising is quite popular currently. Many organizations prefer it as it brings together different aspects of the product. From the analysis, it is evident that alcohol advertising is popular in USA. The perspectives by Jim Fowles and Courtland Bovee present an interesting look into the core nature of im age and textual advertising and their appeals (Kotabe Helsen, 12). This paper brings out the aspect of integrated advertising quite well and vividly explains it using the case of alcohol advertising in USA. With a consumption rate of over 60%, alcohol is one of the advertised products in USA. Additionally, alcohol brings about the concept of integrated advertising quite well considering the flexible nature with which different media can be used as a tool for its advertisement. The 5 Worst Ways to Hunt for a Job

The 5 Worst Ways to Hunt for a Job Doing everything right and still not getting the gig? Make sure you’re not breaking any of these five hard-and-fast rules before despairing. The problem could be your strategy! 1. Getting stuck in search enginesFor every online application you submit, try to find an ‘in’ somewhere instead. Troll your LinkedIn for personal connections. Reach out. Use your network. That direct introduction could be the difference between an online application and an actual interview. Instead of doing keyword job searches, sign up to get Job Matches based on your entire profile.2. Applying to everythingYou’re amazing and you’re versatile, but you’re not qualified for everything. Make sure you’re not applying blind to absolutely every job, no matter whether you are qualified. Or, if you don’t look right on paper but can make a case for yourself, try and reach out directly to the hiring manager. If you’re not matching up to job requirements, co nsider taking a class or honing a new skill for the next round of applications.3. Expecting a breakSure, you’re a fast learner. But sometimes a company wants to hire someone who can jump right in the ring. Being a â€Å"fast learner† is great, but don’t expect that that will always get you through the door. Focus your energy instead on convincing your interviewer why you’d actually be perfect for the job, rather than claiming you can catch up as you go along.4. Being too aggressiveOkay, we get it. You’re looking for work. But networking is networking. Allow time to build a relationship before sticking your resume in a new connection’s face. Try and build a real relationship before you start asking for favors- or a job!5. Calling too muchIf you haven’t heard anything, play it cool. A simple, respectful follow-up email checking on their decision-making timeline will do fine. There’s a difference between proactivity and desperatio n. Make sure you’re on the good side.If you’re guilty of any of these five faux pas, consider trying a new strategy. These common sense guidelines should be a productive start.5 Job Search Tactics You Should Stop Immediately

The Pros and Cons of Science Inventions Essays

The Pros and Cons of Science Inventions Essays The Pros and Cons of Science Inventions Essay The Pros and Cons of Science Inventions Essay Essay Topic: Pros and Cons We should look at both sides of the coin. So I am writing to discuss the pros and cons of science and invention. First of all, with science and invention, there will be less work for human to do. Also, it will be more effective in doing some complicated work. This makes humans lives more enjoyable. Vacuum cleaner Is a good example, it can remove dirt and dust from the floor, and It Is very helpful for housewives. Vacuum cleaners are also Important to those who suffer from allergy ND asthma, because high- temperature vacuum can sterilize bacteria while working. Furthermore, with scientific Invention, we can discover new treatments for diagnose problems. For example, for those who suffer from diabetes- a disease which Is becoming Increasingly common, now have access to very accurate blood glucose monitoring technology. This means that they can monitor on a dally basis and control their condition much more effectively, sharply reducing the risk of blindness and nerve damage. However, there are, of course, some disadvantages along with the development of science and invention. Inventions are not always good. Sometimes, they may make people become lazier and less capable of doing things for themselves. This is because they rely more on machines and products. Nowadays, many people are addicted to computers and mobile phones. This results in a lack of imagination of kids. Also, they dont know how to solve problem on their own. If they look at the screen for a long time, they will get short-sighted, too. Another important argument is that science invention may be used to create some dangerous weapons and bombs that is harmful to the society. They can kill people and cause environmental destruction. For example, the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II had caused a great damage to the people and environment there. Taking both the pros and cons into consideration, I think that science and invention are not always good, and we should not rely too heavily on them. But if we make good use of them, they can still help us a lot and create a more convenient life for us. The Pros and Cons of Science Inventions By Yin Wing-Lee complicated work. This makes humans lives more enjoyable. Vacuum cleaner is a good example, it can remove dirt and dust from the floor, and it is very helpful for housewives. Vacuum cleaners are also important to those who suffer from allergy Furthermore, with scientific invention, we can discover new treatments for diagnose problems. What were the most important consequences of the Industrial Revolution Essay

What were the most important consequences of the Industrial Revolution for world history - Essay Example Traditionally, all family members relied on the head of the family for the provision of the dairy basic needs, and they all used to collectively assist him achieve this objective. The revolution led to the heads of family shifting and migrating away from home in search of employment to sustain their families. Their departure thrust women who were traditionally raised to be submissive to the males as heads of their households when their male counter parts were away. If problems persisted, these families could shift to nearby cities in search of employment in the emerging factories for sustenance. The widespread migration to cities2 made the towns overcrowded causing innumerable problems common even today due to high population growth rates and development of social vices. Lack of accommodation led to the establishment of slums characterized by poor infrastructures, lack of basic amenities like water and sewerage systems and this contributed to the emergence of various contagious disea ses often leading to catastrophic epidemics. The high number of labor supply led to low wages and high unemployment rates increasing the problems these migrants were facing. This is despite the industries requiring large workforces from the country sides3. The standards of morality depreciated rapidly with women and girls prostituting themselves for food. Women and children also copied vices such as drug and alcohol abuse from men and crime rates soared as people tried to survive. The new challenges facing the family and the social life made changes in the gendering roles of both men and women as women tried to fill their new roles. Women were increasingly given more authority and autonomy in making key family decisions in the absence of the patriarchal men, a trend being promoted even today. They were further employed in the emerging factories, and they had to learn new skills just like men to be able to fit in their work

Strategic Thinker Essay Example for Free

Strategic Thinker Essay After reading through, the tactical planner and logistician. I would consider myself to be a strategic thinker. Strategy has never been more challenging, or more important, than in todays environment of global competition, in which, corporate strategies must transcend the borders of nations and markets. Too many organizations try to be everything to everyone, wasting resources in markets that may never provide a worthwhile return on investment. What is strategic thinker? The ability to come up with effective plans in line with an organizations objectives within a particular economic situation. Strategic thinking helps business managers review policy issues, perform long term planning, set goals and determine priorities, and identify potential risks and opportunities. Systems perspective; being able to understand implications of strategic actions. A strategic thinker always have a mental model of the complete end-to-end system of value creation, his or her role within it, and an understanding of the competencies it contains. Intent focused; more determined and less distractible than rivals in the marketplace. Crediting Hamel and Prahalad with popularizing the concept, Liedtka describes strategic intent as the focus that allows individuals within an organization to marshal and leverage their energy, to focus attention, to resist distraction, and to concentrate for as long as it takes to achieve a goal. Thinking in time means being able to hold past, present and future in mind at the same time to create better decision making and speed implementation. Strategy is not driven by future intent alone. It is the gap between today’s reality and intent for the future that is critical. Scenario planning is a practical application for incorporating thinking in time into strategy making. Hypothesis driven, ensuring that both creative and critical thinking are incorporated into strategy making. This competency explicitly incorporates the scientific method into strategic thinking. Intelligent opportunism; which means being responsive to good opportunities. The dilemma involved in using a well-articulated strategy to channel organizational efforts effectively and efficiently must always be balanced against the risks of losing sight of alternative strategies better suited to a changing environment. There are two types of strategic approach: Emergent Strategy: Emergent strategy, on the other hand, is characterized by recursive learning loops, as an organization sets about on a course and then senses and reacts to opportunities that may not have been recognized at the onset. Deliberate Strategy: Deliberate strategy is process driven. Traditional calls for strategic planning indicate a desire for an analytic and somewhat linear approach to strategy. Importance of a strategic thinker The purpose of Strategic Thinking is to create a strategy that is a coherent, unifying, integrative framework for decisions especially about direction of the business and resource utilization. To do it, Strategic Thinking uses internal and external data, qualitative synthesis of opinions and perceptions. It is conscious, explicit, and proactive and defines competitive domain for corporate strategic advantage. Strategy is a key outcome of a relevant strategic thinking process. Tregoe and Zimmerman outlined the relationship between strategy and operations in their work on strategy, Top Management Strategy: What It Is and How To Make It Work Strategic Decisions: The object of strategy is to bring about advantageous conditions within which action will occur. In the military context, this means positioning forces for best advantage and judging precisely the right moment to attack or withdraw. Strategic decisions prior to D-Day in 1944, for example, included setting the day and time of the invasion of the European mainland as well as the choice of battleground. The campaign and each battle were conducted within the boundaries of space and time as set forth by strategy. Once strategy is determined, second tier or operational decisions can be made in the proper context. By definition, operational decisions are those that pertain to the broad execution of strategy. In the realm of business, operational planning is usually conducted with a one-year time horizon, fitting into the context of a longer-range strategic plan. In the military, endeavors resulting from operational decisions are often called campaigns. A campaign is a series of military operations or battles carried out over a large geographical area—such as WWII Normandy—in order to achieve a  large-scale objective during a war. The operational plans for D-Day, for example, set the stage for landing hundreds of thousands of men and significant amounts of equipment and materials on five Normandy-area beaches as part of the overall strategy for taking back France and ending the war in Europe. Other famous military campaigns include Sherman’s march through the Civil War South, Napoleon’s incursion into Russia, and Schwarzkopf’s Desert Storm conflict in Iraq. The Vietnam War presents an excellent example of tactical and operational success but strategic failure. Shortly after the war, a victorious North Vietnamese general was approached by an American general in a diplomatic setting. â€Å"You know,† said the American, â€Å"you never beat us on the battlefield.† Pondering the comment for a moment, the Vietnamese general replied, â€Å"That may be so. But it is also irrelevant.† Indeed, history shows that the American military never lost a significant battle in Vietnam. The war was lost, though, at the strategic level. The mission of the United States drifted to the point that merely finding a way out was considered a successful outcome. Napoleon once said that â€Å"in war, the moral is to the material as three to one.† With every material advantage possible, America did not have the strategic consensus—or the will—necessary to accomplish a military victory.

Panama Canal :: American America History

Panama Canal How did we, humans, accomplish these great tasks? Such deeds are the Great Wall of China and the pyramids of Egypt. But one of these magnificent accomplishments is more significant than others: the Panama Canal. Encouraged by the French, the US built a vital link for the entire world. Despite previous failures by preceding organizations, the US was able to survive. This structure remains today as one of the greatest engineering marvels of the modern world. The Canal goes as far back as the 16th century after Europeans realizing the riches of South America and Asia. Charles I of Spain ordered the first survey of a proposed canal route through the Isthmus of Panama. The survey was finished in 1529 but wars in Europe simply put the project on hold. Then, Emperor Napoleon III of France toyed with the idea of a canal in French land across the sea but never thought much more of it. Various maps were drawn between 1850 and 1875 and proved that only 2 routes were possible: one across Panama and the other across Nicaragua. In 1876, an international company was mustered but failed. Three years later, Ferdinand Marie de Lesseps, the builder of the Suez Canal across Egypt, organized a French company. Lesseps' succession at Suez gave him confidence that a canal at Panama would be no different. A lease on building the canal was sold to France by Colombia from 1878 to 1903. In the beginning, Lesseps had hoped to muster 400 billion francs but received 30 million francs, only 8% of what he had wished for. Work for the French company started in 1882. From that point on, the company and the canal were plagued by troubles, from money to diseases. France gave up on the canal project and began a search for a buyer. Eventually, France found a friend in the US. America sent Lieutenant Menocal to survey Nicaragua for a canal site. But, the government lost funding, the first and last of America's mistakes on the canal project. President McKinley would have probably secured funds for a Nicaraguan canal, had not a bullet taken his life. Theodore Roosevelt decided to begin anew and a friendship with the Republic of Panama. Philippe Bunau-Varilla, an American ambassador, wrote the Hay-Bunau-Varilla treaty, which was ratified by the new Panamanian Government in 1903 and by the American Senate in early 1904.

Ðrama work centered on a mystery bag

This section of our drama work centred on a mystery bag, we made various scenes and sketches about it, this acted as preparation for our final piece. Our first lessons work with the bag was brainstorming its possible owners, uses and just using imagination to create some sense of mystery about the bag. When then, in subsequent lessons had to create short plays about possible owners and uses of the bag, and also how it had come to different people. Among these one of the plays I performed was of a lawyer, losing the bag containing all of his important papers etc, for this short scene we had to find and bring in a piece of music to accompany it. Another thing we did that incorporated the bag was a set of five still images depicting an action scene that focused on the bag, for this we also used music to help create a certain atmosphere. All of this work was groundwork for our final piece, our guidelines were as follows: Make a five – ten minute play about the bag that incorporates a piece of music and one or more drama conventions. In planning our play we brainstormed and developed different ideas, and then picked the one we thought that we could act out best and the one that could be developed most. The idea that we chose was one that had already been discussed in class, but not been looked into any real detail. Here is a brief description of our play: Beginning: A museum with a guide showing visitors around the old artefacts and treasures, they come across the old wreckage of the Isabella II ship, the guide tells of how the ship sunk, they then move to watch a short video of how this happened. Middle: We act out the video of how the ship didn't sink accidentally, and how really the ships captain and his conspirators sank it on purpose in order to gain the insurance money. Ending: We come back to the museum and the guide finishes things off by showing the visitors the captain's bag that carried the plans and blueprints. We soon came across a problem in making our play; we only had three people in our group but over 10 characters (some only extras). We managed to overcome this by using different props and costume to distinguish between the people. Another setback that we came to in making our play was trying to act out being on a ship etc without having a great deal of furniture etc with which to make our set. I think that our final performance went quite well, our only problem was improvising with being on a stage, we hadn't practised like that, so we had to adapt, but other then that it went well. The audience seemed to think that it was ok, no one boo-ed and we got clapped at the end. I think its possible that if we did the play again then we could improve it; spacial awareness and positioning could have been better, but other then that I think our play was good. All in all I think that our performance was done to an adequate level and I was quite happy with it.

Brave New World Essay essays

Brave New World Essay essays Studies have shown that 66% of children ages ten-sixteen when asked say if their peers are influenced by what they are exposed to, like literature. Therefore the issues people view as controversial in Brave New World such as drug use, sexual promiscuity, lack of individualism, and genetic engineering, all influence kids and teenagers. I think the book Brave New World is inappropriate to be taught in a school environment. All of these issues have caught the attention of parents, kids, and school authorities as unsuitable for the school curriculum for many reasons. In Brave New World the everyday abuse of the drug soma is viewed as a natural part of their society, and is not only accepted, but encouraged. This concept goes against what our society tries to teach the youth of our nation. One could argue the idea that because of reading or being taught the book Brave New World in a school environment our countrys minors can look at the constant use of drugs as an appropriate or acceptable part of our society. This can also be seen as adding to the numbers of drug use among teens in our country. The continuous use of drugs is not the only issue that is seen as controversial in Brave New World. A different issue aroused in this book is the promotion of sexual promiscuity and the idea of teachers, who are looked up to, presenting this material. If the role models of our kids are teaching Brave New World which promotes the idea on polygamous sex, then students must consider it to be acceptable. Having adolescents participate in sexual relation and accept it as an innate part of our society can be extremely detrimental to our youth of today. The effect would be an increase in the number of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in our country. As you can see the impacts of this book being taught in a school setting with the issue of sexual promiscuity can lead up to other major issues that are destructible to our soci...

The 4 Best AP Psychology Books Full Expert Reviews

The 4 Best AP Psychology Books Full Expert Reviews SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips There are many AP Psychology books that claim to be the best review tool for students; however, they aren't all telling the truth. Some review books might be better for you based on what type of student you are or the amount of guidance you need in your studying. In this article, I'll give you a list of the best AP Psychology textbooks and review books so you can find the one that will help you get your very best score on the AP Psychology exam. What's the Criteria for a Great AP Psychology Book? Before I list the best books for AP Psychology, here's a little information about what constitutes a good AP review book. First, you'll want to look at the organization of the book to see whether it's well-aligned with the AP curriculum. Content is extremely important, and an AP review book that has too much or too little information will put you at a big disadvantage. For the books on this list, I checked to see whether they included high-quality diagrams and whether their writing style made it easy for readers to understand complex concepts. I considered it a positive when a book had sections dealing with general test-taking strategies and instructions for creating a study plan, which are both great tools for students who need more guidance. Things such as diagnostic tests and instructions on how to use AP practice tests effectively were pluses, too. The quality of practice tests and questions is also very important. An AP review book can be well written and have all the content you need. But if its practice tests aren't challenging enough, you might be in for a nasty surprise on the real AP exam. Easy AP practice tests can cause you to overlook weak areas that would have been evident if the questions were more difficult. If you're unable to physically flip through these AP Psychology books before you buy them, looking at online reviews can be helpful. You'll get to see feedback from students who actually used the book and learn how successful (or unsuccessful) they were in meeting their score goals for the AP test. Although all the AP Psychology books listed in this article represent the latest editions, consulting reviews of past versions and feedback provided by teachers can give you a feel for the quality of a particular book. You've got the right idea, silhouette lady! Never settle for less! The Best AP Psychology Books Before we get to the list, I'll give you several types of AP Psychology books so that you can decide which one(s) to get based on your ability level and needs as a student. This guide mainly contains information on different review books because most students already have an AP Psychology textbook and are primarily looking for supplementary materials to help them prepare for the exam. Here's a list of each "best book" category I'll be covering: Best AP Psychology Textbook: This is a book many students can use as a basic reference for info on psychology topics. I've included it for the benefit of students who are self-studying for the AP Psychology test and who do not have a school-provided psychology textbook. Best AP Psychology Review Book for Any Student: This is a review book that will be useful for students at any skill level (high- or low-scoring). Best AP Psychology Review Book for High-Scoring Students: This is AP Psych prep book offers in-depth information, challenging practice materials, and a more hands-off approach to prep. Best AP Psychology Review Book for Low-Scoring Students: This is a prep book for students who might have had a bit of difficulty understanding the material in their AP Psychology class and need more guidance during the review process. The Best AP Psychology Textbook: Myers' Psychology for AP, Second Edition Cost: $150 for print, $110 for digital Myers is consistently the most popular AP Psychology textbook, mainly because it’s one of the only books that is written specifically for the AP class. It’s a well-organized book, and although it can be a little wordy at times, it has excellent diagrams and is overall a great resource for an in-depth review of the AP material. Pros The sections of the book correspond to topic areas that will show up on the AP Psychology test, so it’s easy to use for studying. It includes multiple-choice AP practice questions and questions that summarize the main concepts at the end of each unit so you can test your knowledge. There are lots of helpful diagrams and tables, and key terms are bolded and defined on the side of each page, so you don’t have to search through the text to pick out definitions. There's a timeline of psychology milestones in the back of the book to help you get a better grasp on when different discoveries happened. Cons The book is written at a high level (although it does have a bit of a conversational tone), so it might be difficult for less-prepared students to grasp some of the concepts right away. It's super expensive! However, you might be able to save a little money by renting it instead of buying it. Who Should Use This Book This book covers all the curriculum that will appear on the test, and it includes a wealth of helpful review materials. You might want to buy this AP Psychology textbook if you are studying for the test on your own (not taking an actual AP Psychology class) and want a more detailed source of information. You could also consider getting it if you hate the book you're using in class and feel that you would benefit from a different textbook. Best AP Psychology Review Book for Any Student: 5 Steps to a 5: AP Psychology 2019 Edition Cost: $12 for print, $10 for digital The titular five steps included in this AP Psychology book are helpful for planning out your prep responsibly. One big caveat, though, is that you should supplement the practice tests in this book with other official AP practice tests to ensure you’re on track. Pros This book includes a clear, helpful introduction that answers any questions you might have about the AP Psychology exam such as scoring, format, content, and what you’ll need to bring on test day. There's a useful guide that tells you how long you should prep for the exam based on your personality and study habits. It then maps out detailed study plans for three different types of students. It gives you helpful tips on how to approach each type of question on the AP Psych test. Each chapter includes key concepts at the beginning and a "rapid review" section at the end that has a list of key terms and definitions. Content chapters thoroughly cover all the material on the AP Psychology test. The writing style is easy to follow and is organized in a way that breaks things down into easily digestible parts. Two practice exams are included at the end, along with an initial diagnostic test to assess your strengths and weaknesses. You can also access three additional practice tests online. Cons The practice questions seem a bit easier than real AP Psychology questions. The guide on how to approach questions could be less wordy, and it doesn’t go into detail about using the process of elimination for multiple-choice questions, which is an important strategy to include. Ultimately, learning to effectively eliminate wrong answers is one of the best ways to improve your score! Who Should Use This Book If you think you might need more guidance in your studying or are self-studying the course, 5 Steps to a 5 is probably a good book for you. It’s written logically and simply, and it does a great job of answering many of the questions students have about how to review for AP Psychology and what the test is like in general. Best AP Psychology Review Book for High-Scoring Students: Barron’s AP Psychology, 8th Edition Cost: $15 for print, $13 for digital Barron’s AP Psychology is a thorough and helpful guide for students studying for the AP Psych test. However, this isn't the best choice if you’re looking for a way to review quickly. Avoid this resource if you’re easily bored by the dry textbook style of writing. Barron’s is not lacking in good content, but it could be more exciting, and you’ll have to do a lot of the legwork in review sessions. Pros This book includes a diagnostic test and a "Multiple Choice Error Analysis" sheet to help you understand your strengths and weaknesses. There are two full-length practice exams at the end of the book. You also get three more full-length tests, which are accessible online. The structure mirrors the format of the exam and follows the AP curriculum exactly (based on the percentages of questions in different topic areas that will show up on the test). There's a list of important terms and people at the beginning of every chapter (and in italics within the text so you can easily pick up on them). It includes a list of the most important psychologists you need to know (the â€Å"Fabulous 15†) so that you can focus on a few people more closely rather than trying to memorize a million different names. There are multiple-choice questions and answer explanations at the end of each chapter to quiz you on the material you've learned. Chapters 15 and 16 focus on test-taking tips for multiple-choice and free-response questions, so you’ll have strategies as well as content knowledge. Helpful tips in the margins of each chapter point out important things to remember and problems that students commonly have with certain terms and concepts. Cons This book is written essentially in textbook format; there are long paragraphs, there aren't that many diagrams, and the writing can be pretty scientific. There’s no glossary, so you have to pick out the definitions of terms yourself in each chapter. The style overall isn’t as fun as some other review books. Barron’s doesn’t try as hard to relate to you and just sticks to the information you need to know- which I respect, but it can be kind of boring. Who Should Use This Book This book is best for those who have a long time to dedicate to studying for the AP Psychology test. You'll need to use it over a longer period of time in order to be able to take full advantage of the diagnostic and practice tests and become familiar with each topic area. If you decide to use Barron's, get it well before the AP test and use it as a continuous review tool. You should also make sure that you’re motivated enough to take charge of your review time and study from a book that doesn’t try that hard to keep you engaged in the material. Best AP Psychology Review Book for Low-Scoring Students: Cracking the AP Psychology Exam, 2018 Edition Cost: $13 for print, $5 for digital This is the best book for learning test-taking strategies for the AP Psych test. The content is high quality as well, but it’s not as easy to study from if you don’t have much time on your hands. Pros It includes a step-by-step guide for how to organize your AP Psychology studying. There's a list of other resources you can use to supplement your review. It includes smart test-taking tips and strategies for multiple-choice and free-response questions. The book uses a conversational, relatable style of writing. Chapters that go over content are diagram-heavy, and they provide clear definitions of key terms throughout. Cons The instructions on designing a study plan are a little vague. It's hard to use this book as a quick study guide as it doesn’t have a centralized source for definitions of terms and concepts. You'd need to read it through completely to be able to get a handle on all the information. Who Should Use This Book This book is a smart choice if you have a fair amount of time before the AP Psychology test and would like some rough guidance on structuring your studying. It’s also great for students who get easily bored by textbooks and their dull writing style- it's definitely one of the more engaging review books I’ve seen! Which AP Psychology Books Are Best for You? Which Books Should You Avoid? If you think you’ll need a lot of guidance in your AP Psych studying (or if you’re working through the class independently), don’t choose a prep book that’s pure information and doesn't offer any planning or test-taking tips. I’d recommend using either 5 Steps to a 5 or Cracking the AP Psychology Exam, along with the Myers textbook (or whichever textbook your AP Psychology class is using). Barron’s is also a decent choice, but make sure that you’re willing to put a little more work into the review process. A book that provides more structure will be helpful even for the most driven students, especially if you’re not taking an actual AP Psychology class. If you choose to buy a book that’s not on this list, keep an eye out for any red flags. Compare the practice questions in the book with official AP Psychology questions to ensure they’re not unrealistically easy or hard. After taking and scoring a practice test from the review book, take an official AP practice test to check that your other score was realistic. I recommend the four AP Psychology books in this article because they’re all well organized and easy to follow. Even if another review book contains all the same info, the way it’s presented might make your studying less productive. Ultimately, if you feel you’re not getting anything out of an AP Psychology prep book and your AP Psych test scores don’t seem to be improving, you might need to try another one with a different format! Keep an eye out for red flags. You don't want to get stuck with a Canadian review book. Or maybe you do. Would it come with complimentary maple syrup? What's Next? Still shaky on a few AP Psych terms? Bolster your knowledge with articles like this one, which goes over what Stockholm Syndrome is and whether or not it's real. Food inc Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Food inc - Essay Example My general reaction to the film is that, it is an amazing documentary that made many facts public. The film could help people protect themselves from their own businesses, something that their own government knew and allowed. Furthermore, the government should be first in fighting such foods, just as it is in fighting Osama Bin Laden. Even though some believe that cheap, a fast and tasty meal is the best food for workers on basis of convenience, this is far too little to consider, instead of its nutritional value. One of the least convincing arguments is that doing away with technology and fertilizer would leave us only with starvation documentaries to watch. Contrary, I believe that the cost of doing away with genetically modified foods is cheaper than the cost of treating diseases related with such foods, and worst of all, the lose of many lives. In order to well understand this documentary, people should remove themselves from their personal opinions and view it, just the way it is. Rhetorical devices have effectively conveyed the message. The call of action at the end is however hypocritical. This is because it only recommends buying foods at farmers markets and organic yoghurt as the only solution to the

Araby Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Araby - Essay Example The first words spoken by the girl of his dream was also about â€Å"Araby†, giving the reader the assumption that it will be a mythological place that he can escape from reality and his harsh environment. The story of â€Å"Araby† highlights the contradiction between reality and illusion through illustration of the transformation of innocence to the path of realization and disillusionment as a phenomenon that occurs in a child’s boyhood. The protagonist of the story is the matured boy who had once been the innocent boy depicted in the story. The story opens with the lines â€Å"North Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers' School set the boys free† (Joyce, 538). Paradoxically, even though they were free from school, even their play did not give them the desired pleasure, for it was an equally dull world, where not even play brought any stimulant for the children. All these descriptions of dullness a ctually create the backdrop against which the boy takes resort to an imagination larger than life and hence encounters a surprising disillusionment.

Leaders and Managers Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Leaders and Managers - Term Paper Example This essay discusses that the role of a manager and a leader in the organizational setting are different with respect to their function within the group. Gomez-Mejia and Balkin describe a leader as an individual â€Å"that energizes people to contribute their best individually and in cooperation with other people†. The description or definition identifies key elements of the role that distinguishes a leader from a manager. Schein says leaders are responsible for creating and establishing the culture within an organization. Similarly, leaders foundationally and fundamentally form the mission of the organization and create the environment within the culture in which the operations of the organization will function. Generally, the term leader carries the mystic of a person with a larger than life personality and presence that is able to get others to do behave in certain ways. Whereas the depictions of such personalities describe a particular type of leader the basic trait of inf luencing others is applicable to the organizational setting. According to Maxwell, â€Å"Leadership is influence nothing more, nothing less†. His statement affirms that a leader’s primary function within an organization is to influence others giving direction and guidance to the activities within the organizational structure and culture. Leaders influence what decisions are made, how to implement the decisions chosen and assist in formulating strategies to divide the labor between the specialized work groups to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.... On the other hand, a manager’s presence and interaction with workers in the organization is vital for ensuring and maintaining a healthy culture. Another responsibility of his or her role is to make certain the processes within the organization are in alignment with the strategic goals. Using a face-to-face and hands-on approach according to Schein (2004) produces higher efficiency and cohesion within the organizational culture. He uses the term â€Å"visible management† inferring the importance of managers’ visible presence within the organizational culture and the significance of a manager’s accessibility for workers (p. 228). Management in the â€Å"New Millennium† as described by Gomez-Mejia and Balkin (2002, p. 4) and because of globalization and the decentralization of the organizational design is rendering the traditional manager ineffective in the current environment. The new environment does not allow a manager to perform his or her duties in isolation without human exchange and interaction (Schein, 2004). The system of management and managers in the present competitive and technological climate requires those in managing positions to develop additional skills for higher levels of efficiency in response to the evolving external and internal environments. Schein (2004) suggests three types of managers exist in an organization: 1) strategic, 2) tactical, and 3) operational (pp. 4-5). In his analysis the hierarchical design reflects a top down organizational structure with the strategic manager representing the senior executive level of managers or the upper level of management. In the role of a strategic manager one responsibility is to develop the strategic goals

Reducing plagiarism Essay Example for Free

Reducing plagiarism Essay The Council of Writing Program Administrators(2003) states that plagiarism is one of the most common issues seen in the colleges and universities. The school administration and teachers are concerned about this as it is affecting the students work. The problem with plagiarism is not only limited to the course work, but it started affecting the student publications, blogs, and research work according to the WPA council(2003). Every problem has a solution if tried to resolve, in the same way we can try to control this issue by implementing strict rules in schools and creating awareness among students about the importance of their own ideas. Plagiarism is presenting other’s ideas or work as one’s own. It is a form of cheating people by showing someone else’s effort as one’s own by taking away their credit and ignoring them. To gather certain information students refer to many sources, but they should try to understand the data and present it as understood along with citing the sources. Plagiarism is of three categories: intentional plagiarism, unintentional plagiarism, and self-plagiarism. Intentional plagiarism is stating others idea or work as one’s own without citing them. Unintentional plagiarism is ignoring or wrongly citing the small quotes or phrases taken from other sources. Self-plagiarism is submitting the same work for separate classes without actually doing them. The resources are there to utilize, but they are being misused. A work assigned to student in their academics helps in improving their knowledge by spending time on it to learn various topics and improve their thinking and individual ability. However, the situation is that students tend to plagiarize the work without learning or putting in any effort to understand what they do. This is resulting in the loss of ability to think among them; they are tending to make the work easier by copying instead of learning things. All these are resulting in reducing the standards in students so; the school administrations should take action against this by, teaching students the importance of one’s own originality, the need to learn things and implement strict rules against plagiarism. Controlling a problem is possible with small efforts, so does plagiarism. Teachers cannot solely provide a solution for this; students also need to put in their effort to reduce this problem. There are a few solutions to this issue: †¢Citation can reduce plagiarism. Citing the sources from where data is retrieved, shows that the student has put in the effort to learn the topic, moreover, in this  way the credit for original author is given. †¢Highlighting the small quotes or phrases taken from other sources and citing them would help is reducing plagiarism. †¢The school authorities should implement strict rules against plagiarism and make students aware of it. Teachers can have discussions with students regarding their academics and help students to overcome their problems. Some students’ plagiarize as they have fear in them that they cannot do a perfect work on their own and some as they cannot manage their time. Such students should speak to their teacher or adviser about how to overcome that fear and manage time, so that they can develop their own ideas. †¢Teachers should create awareness among students regarding the importance of developing one’s own thinking capacity. They should make the student aware of what issues might arise by plagiarism so that they would not choose it. †¢There are many tools available on the web to check for plagiarism, students can use them to avoid plagiarism and schools can use it to verify if it is the student’s original work. †¢Lastly, students should try to develop their interest towards their academics, which would help in reducing plagiarism. Knowledge is something, which increases by working on it, rather than copying and displaying someone else’s work as one’s own. The student should know the value of originality and try to improve it rather than ignoring it. Most importantly, credit is to be given for others work when using it in one’s own work by citing, which helps in reducing plagiarism.
